in insecure human bodies are something everyone, in general, just wants to avoid altogether. Those individuals tend to be bullies. In a public office, that’s not a good thing. Usually you can spot their personal issues right away.
Don’t elect them if possible, yet if one happens to find one elected, like I did in Palm Springs, this is when the Voice of the People really needs to be the strongest in the community. If that voice is not, likely there is already a police state in operation or a police state is being empowered. What makes this threatening to democracy, is that it is easy to sell violent and authoritative resolutions as the way to solve problems rather than make hard policy decisions that empower a more community-based resolution which reduces the amount of authority and power in the government, and those who hold public offices. People who would otherwise never condone violence as a means to resolution, then approve and support the use of violence, force and bullying rather than consensus, common ground and compromise by their local government.
The best way to change this reality is by empowering others in the community to rise up and assume authentic leadership that benefits the whole of the community and not just the agenda of a strong personality in a small town.
Technically, I don’t live in Palm Springs. We did for three years, then moved to neighboring Desert Hot Springs, yet my daughter still goes to school in Palm Springs and it is where we spend most of our time for social and economic purposes. Because of that, I engage in the government of Palm Springs — or rather, I should say, I attempt to engage in the government in Palm Springs. I mostly do not because, well, truth be told, the Mayor is mean bully and is not very smart, really — although he really thinks he is is really smart except when he’s not (like we all can be sometimes) — and who wants to deal with that ever? In a small town, confronting a mayor, popular or otherwise, can result in some negative personal backlash which I try to avoid as much as possible as I have a high school daughter and this is a small town, really. To give you a perspective, the current sitting mayor of Palm Springs does not make his home here, he makes it in a completely different state and he commutes for his “job” which seems to be to give as much benefit to real estate developers as possible, leaving all the major real estate developments in our community to not contribute to our tax base for . . . in some pet projects for the Mayor and his friends, for forever. Can we say #DEsTROIT model?
In the clashing that I have done with the Mayor, is clearly his personal issues I continue to press whenever I just even show-up and speak. This happens naturally when you begin to personally engage and confront authorities — especially those who have been abusing their position and do not hold authentic authority for the community.

So, what does bullying in this civic environment look like? Well, the government hasn’t focused an eye toward itself in this context, but perhaps you may see the evidence of bullying in your city hall if you read what our Federal Government has concluded is bullying in a different controlled environment: the classroom.
The core elements of the definition include: unwanted aggressive behavior; observed or perceived power imbalance; and repetition of behaviors or high likelihood of repetition.
As you get to know your elected officials and they get to know you, you can begin to work on the habits of bullying you see evidenced in their positions as an elected officials, especially in public meetings. Do not hesitate to file an immediate claim form or, as I did, a “concern form” when you encounter bullying hallmarks in City Hall, like I did on 18 March 2015.
I don’t know, maybe someone, other than me, needs to educate the Mayor on the history of the grant that was the subject of this agenda item, and what possibly Dr. King may have said about such things 40 years ago. Maybe then, he can understand what I was TRYING to say has to do with this AGENDA item. For now, I will use his insecurity to file a claim against the City of Palm Springs to try to bring Safe Space for public speakers in the City of Palm Springs. As for, the police chief chasing me out of the meeting … what was that for? a show of strength? or just more bullying activities in threatening someone who just came and spoke for 3 minutes about nothing important according to the Mayor himself?! seriously, wtf?!

ok, so, if you were wondering what else i do when i’m not writing poetry, getting hit by BMWs and such, i direct how i want my government to operate. its not close to what i consent to, so i keep trying. #persistence is supposed to be a good human trait.
